Dear Valued Clients,
In 2015, upon discovery of some financial discrepancies in clinic operations, I instituted what turned out to be a lengthy audit of the financial accounts of St. Charles Veterinary Clinic. By way of background, the accounting functions of the clinic were handled by a trusted office manager of 15 years, who was responsible for bookkeeping and providing outside accountants with the required information to prepare quarterly reports and tax returns. The results of our audit necessitated the involvement of the St. Charles Police Department and Kane County State’s Attorney’s office. After concluding an additional six months of investigation by the St. Charles detectives, the former employee has recently been arrested and charged with two Class One felonies for embezzlement. Since the discovery of these financial anomalies in 2015 we have completely revised our accounting and business protocols to protect against this type of criminal conduct in the future.
Throughout this difficult time, we have remained committed and focused on providing the highest level of care to our patients and clients. Our outstanding team of doctors and support staff continue to uphold the standard of excellence our clients have come to expect and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve them.
Please understand we are not at liberty to discuss any details of this matter since it is a pending criminal prosecution. I sincerely appreciate the support and loyalty of our wonderful clients. I often comment to my team that I believe our clients are the best pet parents in the world and feel very fortunate to be a part of this community.
With sincere gratitude,
Dr. James Miles
